I had to add these to my nest boxes as they were being destroyed by woodpeckers. Had to repair the hole in the wood but after fitting these the woodpecker (which I like a lot) has chosen to practice beak work or other things

2PCS Bird Nest Box Protection Plates 32mm
I was not too sure if to give this 3 or 4 stars. The 32mm plates are fine, it is the screws that are not. If the holes for the screws in the plates had been countersunk, or if roundhead screws had been supplied, straight to 5 stars. As I do not have the capability of countersinking stainless steel plates and the screws supplied project above the surface of the plates, I have had to go and buy roundhead screws.

Whether you make your own bird nest boxes or buy them, these plates are a great addition. They help prevent larger birds and squirrels attacking the opening and making it larger.They are very easy to fit, using the supplied screws and screw driver. The whole kit is supplied in a plastic case.It would be nice to have a variety of hole sizes to suit boxes for a broader variety of birds. The supplied 32mm diameter hole sizes is generally for the medium sized garden birds such as sparrows, great tits and nuthatches etc. blue tits and coal tits require smaller holes around 25mm.The price is perhaps a little higher than similar products but I guess you are paying for the screws, screw driver and plastic storage box.

The ’12PCS Bird Nest Box Protection Plates 32mm’ arrived in a reusable plastic box, with screws and screwdriver.As I am in the process of making a couple of new bird boxes, I found these just in time, as I was looking at making my own metal plates for the boxes. Until now I have relied on just a hole in the wood, unfortunately last year we lost a complete family of ‘Parus major’ because of that reliance.It’s too late now to place the boxes for this year as the birds are breeding early, but the new boxes with plates in place should be nicely weathered and in place ready for next year.It was nice to find the plates had been deburred, so no sharp edges.
