Tarantula Keepers Take Note!
I needed to rehouse a Featherleg Baboon Tarantula, who had grown too big for her enclosure. Her old vivarium only opened at the top, and didn’t give me enough space to reach in and manoeuvre a catch cup to contain the spider. This ‘Old World’ tarantula species is also known for being fast, defensive and having quite potent venom (at least compared to their New World counterparts). So, rather than distress the poor animal, I created a temporary cardboard lid for each enclosure, along with a Hamster Tunnel Bridge. There are air holes all along the tunnel, so no worries about ventilation. The spider sat calmly in her web while I installed the bridge, and made no movement at all until I had completed the whole setup. I then turned off the lights and left the room.By morning, she had used the tunnel and was happily webbing up her new, bigger home.I removed the tunnel and temporary lid, then replaced the enclosure’s original top.Job done. Zero stress. Happy tarantula. Recommended.
